March 18

So much to report today!  This is going to take two posts.  We started off with a leisurely drive to Beaufort, a small typical antebellum town, according to the travel guide.  It is the second oldest town in South Carolina, Charleston being the first.  Beaufort has a burgeoning art community and a charming main street with several restaurants near the water.  The pace of life feels much slower here than on Hilton Head.  Several very large churches take up several blocks of town just off the main street - Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostal, and some that branched off of those three.

This is an inn just off the main street of Beaufort.  Beautiful!  And lots of Spanish moss everywhere. It was 82 degrees in Beaufort, and one could almost imagine the dog days of summer, but without the discomfort!

A shower of Spanish moss with redbud flowers peeking through.
