I had said I wouldn't do a post today, but Lee and I bicycled around the place where we are staying, and I took a few photos. This is an interesting place, quite different from anything I have ever seen before. Weird, actually. It is called "The Great Outdoors RV Nature and Golf Resort". The property was originally owned by the Mr. Eckerd, founder of Eckerd Drugs. He used the property for hunting, and would invite friends. His friends would want their own cabins or trailers, and it gradually morphed into an RV park. Today it has lands that are to be used for wildlife conservation, never to be developed. Hunting is no longer allowed on the property. Instead, there is a golf course, two swimming pools, a fitness facility, and lots of classes and social activities.
Every lot is privately owned, but lots can be rented when owners are away. There are separate sections with different building codes. The section where we are staying has concrete pads, and sometimes little gazebos or even small houses that have kitchens, storage areas, and sitting rooms. So people sleep in their RVs, but cook and lounge in the little cabins. Our site has a gazebo and storage shed. This photo was taken out the window of our RV, looking down the street.
Other sections have large open sheds that cover the RVs:
And other sections have homes of various sizes, small to large, with covered garages for RVs:
Pretty bizarre, huh? Nice people, though. And lots of golf carts.
