Periwinkle Park, Part 2

I have always been fascinated by plate 96 from Audubon’s Birds of America.  Audubon wrongly named it the Columbian Jay, having been told it was collected on the Columbia River in the Northwestern U.S.  In truth, it is a jay from Mexico known as the Magpie Jay (Calocitta colliei).  Although plate 96 is magnificent, the bird in real life defies description.  It is incredibly beautiful, and I was thrilled to see it in the same aviary as the blue and white birds above.  Have you ever seen a more beautiful, regal bird?

Wow, unbelievable!
