Endeavour launched!

Well, we saw it!  We got up at 5:30 a.m., left the RV as quietly as possible so as not to disturb the birds' beauty sleep.  We drove to the Titusville waterfront.  We parked at Sears, which was free (other parking lots cost $10-$20), and walked over to Paul's Smokehouse with our beach chairs.  Getting down to the waterfront was really no problem, even though 500,000 people were expected to watch the launch.  I think that perhaps the early hour and overcast skies affected the number of people that actually showed up.  There were people ahead of us, but many more people arrived after us and sat behind us.

We watched a beautiful sunrise:

And a quiet bay:

Of the launch itself, this first photo gives an idea of the distance we are from the shuttle.  I think we were 6 to 8 miles from it, I'm not sure of the exact distance.  The shuttle and its launch pad are in the center of the photo, waiting quietly:

Below is a telephoto view of the launch pad and shuttle:

I am going to do the second series of photos, of the launch itself, in a separate post.  WiFi is slow here, and I am afraid of losing the post before it is uploaded.  The second post will arrive shortly.
